Kerry surges ahead in US polls
Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry has stormed ahead of his rivals after scoring a series of key primary victories, according to exit polls.
The senator was forecast to win in Delaware, Missouri, Arizona, North Dakota and New Mexico, but John Edwards claimed South Carolina.



Former Nato commander Wesley Clark beat off both Senator Kerry and John Edwards to take Oklahoma, reports said.

Senator Joe Lieberman announced he is dropping out of the contest.

The BBC's Jon Leyne in Washington says if Mr Kerry had taken a clean sweep, he might have been unstoppable.

Instead, he says, John Edwards is emerging as the principal challenger.

John Kerry said he was "very pleased" with his showing in Missouri, the biggest prize of the night, with 74 nominating delegates at stake.
